Director of Choral Activities: Mr. Brian von Glahn
Originally from Cresskill, New Jersey, Brian von Glahn (or simply, VG) graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 2002 and returned to NWMSU in 2006 as a Graduate Assistant. He has taught in Chillicothe, Cameron, and now Platte County High School. During his time at Cameron, Brian taught grades 5-12 and kindergarten. The choirs at Cameron received multiple awards and had the opportunity to perform in numerous venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and a live performance on "Good Morning America". The choirs also performed for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. He received Educator of the Year from the Cameron Chamber of Commerce in 2011.
After teaching middle school and high school in Cameron, MO, Brian came to Platte County High School in 2013. He is the Director of Choral Activities, Co-Director of the annual fall musical, sponsor of the Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter at PCHS, and serves as the All-State Choir Coordinator for the Northwest district of MMEA and the Show Choir Repertoire and Standards chair for MCDA. While at Platte County, the choirs have received consecutive top ratings at MSHSAA Music Festivals and multiple awards at various show choir competitions, including Grand Champions at four different competitions within the past two years. He received the award of Outstanding District Director for the Northwest district in 2015. Under Mr. von Glahn's direction, Platte County High School has received invitations to perform at the annual Missouri Music Educators Association In-Service/Conference for Sound Express in 2018 and Concert Choir in 2020. Outside of teaching, Brian is a recurring performer with Gladstone Theater in the Park and Robidoux Resident Theatre, and sings bass with the premier northwest Missouri vocal ensemble Robidoux Chorale. Brian is a highly-sought choral clinician, adjudicator, and choreographer. Through excellence in choral music, Brian strives to create and maintain a positive learning experience within the classroom and inspire a lifelong love for music for all of his students. Brian is a member of NAfME, ACDA, MCDA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. Brian lives in Kansas City, MO with his wonderfully supportive wife Danae and amazing children Jackson and Madeleine. Assistant Director: Ms. Lily Fisher
Ms. Lily Fisher is in her third year as the Assistant Choir Director at Platte County High School, where she co-teaches all choir classes and teaches an adaptive music class. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri Kansas City class of 2021, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Vocal Music Education. During her time at UMKC, Lily taught private voice lessons at the Language and Music House in Kansas City, was the Vice President of the UMKC American Choral Directors Chapter, and was a member of the UMKC NAfME Chapter. She was also a section leader of the UMKC Inaugural Vocal Arts Festival in 2020, a member of the UMKC Choral Leadership Committee, and a member of all UMKC choirs throughout her degree. Although her passion lies in teaching, Lily has performed with her ensembles across the country. She performed at Carnegie Hall in 2016 with Rock Bridge High School, with Kristen Chenoweth in 2017 with RBHS, and at the ACDA National Conference in 2019 with UMKC. She completed her student teaching at Raymore-Peculiar High School in Peculiar, MO and Union Chapel Elementary in Park Hill, MO.
Currently, Lily lives in Kansas City, MO. She is a member of MCDA, ACDA, and NAfME. She loves to spend her free time reading or playing with her two nieces. She is extremely excited to work with all of the choir students at PCHS and share her love of music with them. Accompanist: Kylee Smith
Kylee Smith is beginning her second year as accompanist for the Platte County Choirs. Originally a Spoofhound from Maryville, MO, she received her Instrumental Music Education degree from Northwest Missouri State University. After teaching grades 5-12 for four years in Sabetha, KS, Kylee returned to Missouri and ultimately back to Maryville High School where she served for four years as choir accompanist, performing arts center coordinator, and activities secretary. While the accompanist at Maryville, Spectrum consistently placed in their division of many different show choir festivals. In addition, all choirs received excellent and superior ratings at the state large group festival, six singers were named to the Missouri All-State Choir, many singers were named to the Northwest All-District Choir, as well as many superior and excellent ratings at the district and state solo and small ensemble festivals. Kylee is currently a member of NAfME, MCDA, and ACDA.
As a resident of Platte City, Kylee enjoys accompanying for Robidoux Resident Theater in St. Joseph. She also devotes time to the Northwest Missouri State University’s Summer Music Camp, as well as honor choirs, events, weddings, funerals, etc. Other than music and theater, Kylee is an avid spectator and fan of local teams, such as the NWMSU Bearcats, the Royals, and the Chiefs to name a few.
