The Platte County High School Vocal Music Department hosts the annual Showcase of Excellence Show Choir Festival. Choirs from across the state of Missouri perform their unique shows and competing for various Caption Awards, divisional trophies, and the Overall Grand Championship. This festival is designed to bring everybody together and encourage each other to do their best through the spirit of show choir.
There are three (3) scoring judges and two (2) clinicians during the Preliminary Round. Each ensemble receives overall scores (from categories of vocals, choreography, overall stage/show design, and accompaniment) from each judge, and also a clinic after their performance (pre-assigned with either of the clinicians) on how to improve their show. After all choirs have performed, their Preliminary Round scores are compared to other ensembles in their division to determine divisional trophies. Caption Awards in this round are awarded by the judges (not in specific reference to their scores).
The six (6) ensembles with the highest Preliminary Round scores advance to the Finals Round. The Finals Round performance order is determined by the performance times during the Preliminary Round (earliest ensemble performs first) - if two (2) ensembles from the same school earn placement in the Finals Round, they will perform first and last (according to their Preliminary Round performance order) during the Finals Round and the schedule for the other Finalists will be adjusted accordingly. For the Finals Round, the clinicians join the previous scoring judges, making now five (5) scoring judges. There is no clinic session with each ensemble after each performance. After all choirs have performed, their Finals Round scores are compared to the other ensembles to determine Runners-Up trophies and the Grand Championship. Caption Awards are awarded based on total scores from all judges within their specific categories.
